Environmental Biotechnology Group

Bioremediation is a key area of environmental biotechnology, because the elimination of a wide range of pollutants from water and soils is an absolute requirement for sustainable development. The biodegradation / bioremediation program of environmental contaminants aims at utilizing biodegradative potential of microorganisms for bioremediation of various pollutants (including oil and pesticides) contaminated lands and/or water. Using this technology, it will be possible to get rid of contaminants and hence improve soil quality without any environmental risks.

This group focuses on processes development for efficient biodegradation and bioremediation of environmental pollutants. Some salient activities are;

  • Biodegradation and bioremediation of pesticides and related contaminants
  • Phytoremediation of toxic metals
  • Waste water treatments through hydroponics technology
